CWW Let’s talk about… The new wines of Mount Etna, with Benjamin North Spencer

April 15 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

At the end of the 20th century, the vineyards on the slopes of the volcano Mount Etna were nearly abandoned. Today, there are more than 100 successful estates and hundreds of growers making some of the world’s finest wines from indigenous Sicilian grape varieties. On Europe’s largest active volcano, this kind of rapid change doesn’t come easy. Join Etna expert Ben Spencer on an exploration of the rebirth of the wine region that has everyone talking about Sicily.

Ben, a Circle member and DipWSET, has lived and worked on Mount Etna since 2012. His journey into the world of wine began unexpectedly during an internship at a California winery 23 years ago. Now, he is one of Etna’s most passionate ambassadors, a consulting winemaker on the volcano, a journalist and the founder of the Etna Wine School™ in Sicily. He is also the award-winning author of The New Wines of Mount Etna. Ben has studied with the Court of Master Sommeliers and the University of California, Davis.
