“Too often Bordeaux has been portrayed as a gated community of overpriced wines,” says Jane Anson, noted author and expert on the wines of the region, “but the Bordeaux of today is one of the most exciting wine regions of the world, not only making wines with precision and ambition but increasingly at the forefront of the green movement, and reclaiming its role as centre of the global wine trade.”
After 20 years of covering the region as critic and commentator for Decanter magazine, Anson has made the decision to create her own website, www.janeanson.com, the first to provide dedicated coverage of Bordeaux and the increasing numbers of icon wines that are sold through the merchant system known as the Place de Bordeaux. The site launched in October 2021 – and Anson has made it clear from the start that it will be 100% independent, with no shareholders, investors, or advertisers.
‘The site is aimed at wine lovers who want practical, actionable advice,” Anson says. “When to pull the cork, and when not to, which wines offer value, regular ongoing vintage assessments and in-depth châteaux verticals with an emphasis on drinkability. There will also be regular interviews with leading figures, a focus on terroir, plus regular podcasts and subscriber events.”
The website www.janeanson.com is now live.
