Hermione Ireland, head of boutique wine publisher Académie du Vin Library, answers a few questions to introduce herself and her company to the wine communicators of CWW.The Académie du Vin Library is “dedicated to publishing the finest wine writing of the past, the present and the future.”
In a sentence or two, could you describe the mission and scope of your company, including any relevant new goals or policies you are putting in place?
We were founded to publish the best wine writing and have grown to be the world’s largest specialist wine publisher. We aim to enhance all wine lovers’ enjoyment and understanding of wine by publishing books for different levels of knowledge. We work with both established authors and newer writers.
Could you please give an example of a recent accomplishment you and your company are most proud of?
This autumn we’re publishing a book on sustainability in the wine industry which I hope will reach people involved in environmental studies in many other industries – I’m very proud of this.
On a more personal level, what is a recent notable experience you’ve had with a wine?
I love learning about wine and have found it to be one of the things I’ve most enjoyed about my job since starting it 4 years ago. I loved meeting a large number of US sommeliers at TEXSOM last August. And spending time in Napa Valley in November, working on two books on the region, has been a real treat.
