Michele Bertuzzo is the CEO of Studio Cru, “a communication agency specialised in wine and high-end gastronomy” based in Vicenza, Italy.
In a sentence or two, could you describe the mission and scope of your company?
Studio Cru supports wineries in discovering what truly makes them unique and inimitable. We seek the most effective language to express this uniqueness and connect people around new ideas. We are always amazed by how much conformity there is in the wine industry, and how much work still remains to be done.
Could you please give an example of a recent accomplishment you and your company are most proud of?
With some of our clients, we are committed to involving artists in designing signature labels for limited editions of one of their wines. The proceeds from sales are then donated to a non-profit organisation chosen by the company and the artist. This initiative can be carried out in various ways and always adds artistic and ethical value to the wine.
On a more personal level, what is a recent notable experience you’ve had with a wine or spirit – consuming, producing, learning about?
I am personally very drawn to new types of wines and other low-alcohol beverages made through alternative methods. Recently, I tasted a co-fermentation of apple and grape — a sort of cider-wine — which I found very interesting. There are many possibilities for producing low- or non-alcoholic beverages naturally. Fermenting and then removing the alcohol through a dealcoholisation process is probably the least intelligent approach we could take.
