Sherwin Lao was introduced to the world of wine when he was hired by a huge Californian winery in the mid-1990s to take charge of the on-premise marketing of the winery- at first in Southeast Asia, and eventually for the much larger Asia-Pacific region. After leaving the Californian winery in the tail-end of the 1990s, Sherwin continued to do regional wine related work, mostly with Spanish wineries. By then, wine was already a personal passion.
In 2000, Sherwin was asked to contribute an article in Preview magazine, and this started his wine writing gig. Sherwin would contribute to several local magazines and eventually have his own regular wine column for a daily newspaper, the first column dedicated to wine in the Philippines. His column is now in Business World, the leading business newspaper in the country. Sherwin is well recognized in the local and regional wine industry.
