Simon Field, an Oxford languages graduate, was lucky to escape from the world of Chartered Accountancy, having qualified with KMPG in 1991, and then spent a couple of misguided years working for an American Bank in such cosseted dens as Monaco, Guernsey and Gibraltar.
In 1995 he joined Oddbins, scaling the heights of a managerial position in the Belgravia branch, an up-market broom cupboard as it turned out. Twenty years as a Buyer for Berry Bros ensued, where he honed in on the South of France, in particular The Rhône Valley, and also Champagne, Spain and Fortified wine. Plenty of sustenance there. Now he freelances and is regular contributor to Decanter and especially The World of Fine Wine. He passed his MW exam at the first attempt in 2002.
We welcome Simon to the Circle and look forward to sharing his news and features in the future!
