Robin Goldsmith rounds up the fabulously jovial Circle of Wine Writers Festive Party 2024.
‘Twas a cold evening outside, but the warmth positively radiated inside urban winery, London Cru, on the 9th December. This was the venue for the eagerly anticipated Circle of Wine Writers Festive Party. Attended by an international jamboree of joyous journalists and specially invited wine trade guests, a wonderful time was had by all.
Among them were our very own chairperson, Meg Maker, who had flown in specially from the US, as had representatives from Italian communications agency, Studio Cru. It was a fantastic opportunity for members of the Circle, who sometimes only see each other ‘virtually’, to come together and celebrate our shared vinous passion.
CWW President, Rosemary George, opened proceedings with an uplifting speech, followed by the incomparable Charles Metcalfe, whose uniquely adapted and beautifully sung rendition of Schubert’s ‘Die Forelle’ set the tone for a superb evening’s enjoyment.
Everyone appreciated London Cru’s kind hospitality, particularly the delicious canapés, while Uruguay Wine and Ferrari Trento generously provided sponsorship and an excellent selection of wines to taste throughout the evening.
Many thanks to all who attended for making this event such a success. These include our sponsors, hosts and helpers, but a special mention must go to Andrea and Helen whose sterling work, before, during and after, ensured everything ran smoothly.
